Information about France
France has an aera of 640 679 km² and a population of more than 65.Million people.
France is situated in Western Europe and shares borders with Belgium to the North East, Germany and Luxembourg in the East as well as with Switzerland, Italy to the South East.
The language is French. Until 10 years ago it was very difficult to be a tourist because the French would not like to speak other languages.
But since about 10 years you can more easily visit France without speaking French.
Maybe because nowadays there are many British who are retiring in France.
The schoolsystem has also changed and english is teached from the first years in school.
The landscape in france is absoluteely fabulous.
Mainland France is divided into 27 regions and these into 95 departments 5 islands in the other part of the world plus Corsica, the beautiful island just in opposite of Nice, Côte d’Azur.
The Pyrenees, a mountain range to the South of France, are a natural border between Spain and France.
86% of the population live in towns.
Although the countryside in France is well known for being so beautiful. Wherever you go there is always something different to see and to visit.
French Alps and the south Alps: great skiing.
France has got the highest mountains of Europe the Mont Blanc, which is 4.810m high. Many people go up as a challenge. Around the Mont Blanc is the most fantastic ski region. Well known in the whole world.
The capital of France, Paris, has on its own about 2.2 million habitants.
Also Paris has a very old cultural heritage which is now mixed with modern architecture.
Very famous for the Parisian life style, its monuments, Tour Eiffel, Arc de Triumph, Champs Elysees, Opera and its river la Seine.
A city where something is always happening.
Paris is also the capital of gastronomy, fashion and shopping.
The oldest Museum is the famous Louvre.
The Louvre is an old Palace transformed to the most famous and visited museum in the world. Situated in the town centre of Paris.
The most modern museum in the Beaubourg, centre Pompidou build without any walls.
Paris is just a must.
Also very interesting is:
Versailles: Le chateau de Versailles very famous for its size , beauty and its fantastic parcs. Many kings have lived in the Chateau.
Côte d’Azur is well known for turquoise blue sea and great beaches.
And for the good weather. In the winter is very seldom under 0 degree and in summer 30°, perfect for swimming the sea.
The sea is the Mediterranean and so agreable warm.
La Provence for its beautiful lavender fields and old historic towns.
France is also very famous for its painters like Claude Monet, Aguste Renoir, and Paul Cezanne.
And not to forget France has over 1000 different cheeses!

Alain was saying his prayers as his father passed by his bedroom door.
